Thursday 13th June saw the official opening of Scotia Windows and Doors new production facility on Moorfield Industrial Estate. Michael Matheson MSP, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity attended the event. The Cabinet Secretary was joined by Fiona Lees Chief Executive of East Ayrshire Council, Elena Whitham Depute Leader of East Ayrshire Council, other elected councillors and council officials.
Scotia’s Managing Director Robert McKnight opened proceedings welcoming all the visitors and recognising the various parties that had made construction of the new facility possible including the Council, Scottish Government, Ashleigh Construction and the various other sub contractors involved in the project. The Depute Council Leader and Cabinet Secretary then made further announcements on the future development of Moorfield Business Park as part of the on-going Ayrshire Growth deal announced earlier in the year.
Bespoke factory in Moorfield
Robert McKnight, Managing Director of Scotia said: “Merging our five production Windows and Doors units from Bonnyton into a new bespoke factory here in Moorfield has allowed us to improve efficiencies and the quality of our products. We have also made a significant investment in new machinery which has resulted in increased production, and further expansion is planned for our Kilmarnock operation.”
Securing 183 jobs and creating 20 more
During his visit, Michael Matheson toured the new windows and doors factory which is now based in a 2,700sqm unit – a move securing 183 jobs and creating 20 more. In relocating from their original base over five sites in Bonnyton Industrial Estate, Kilmarnock, the company has been able to come together under one roof. This has increased their manufacturing capacity with the promise of further new jobs.
